CAR CARE TIPS
Air Conditioning
When should my air conditioning system be
checked?
- Each year prior to the warm weather months.
- Any time it isn't working to your satisfaction you should bring
it for an A/C Check.
Brakes
How can I tell when my brakes need servicing?
- The brake pedal can be depressed nearly to the floor.
- You hear a squealing or other unusual noise when you apply the
brakes. Some brands of brake pads have a built-in device that
pitched squeal when the brake pads are getting low.
- The car pulls to one side when you apply the brakes.
- You feel a grinding or bumpy sensation as you come to a
stop.
- In general, if there is something about your brakes that is
making you uncomfortable, you should have them checked
Oil Changes
When does my car's oil need changed?
- Most manufacturers recommend an oil change every three months
or 3,000 miles under severe driving conditions - city driving, stop
& go, and dusty conditions - just about every case except
steady highway driving.
Fuel-Saving Driving Tips
- Don't be an aggressive driver -- Aggressive driving can lower gas mileage by as much as 33 percent on the highway and 5 percent on city streets, which results in 10 to 66 cents per gallon.
- Avoid excessive idling -- Sitting idle gets zero miles per gallon. Letting the vehicle warm up for one to two minutes is sufficient.
- Observe the speed limit -- Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. Each mpg driven over 60 will result in an additional 10 cents per gallon. To maintain a constant speed on the highway, cruise control is recommended.
Tires
- Check tire inflation. Under-inflated tires can result in a loss of fuel efficiency. This is the least expensive form of preventive and safety maintenance. Tires should be checked once a month.
Transmision and Differential
Fluids
- RG Motorworks generally recommend these services every 30,000
miles.
